Improving the flavor of domestic mangoes in response to growing U.S. demand was our project focus. Imported mangoes often lack taste due to early harvest maturity and postharvest treatments, presenting an opportunity for U.S. farmers to grow superior varieties. Key goals include: Evaluating mango varieties for field performance and consumer flavor preferences. Studying genetics to identify genes linked to preferred mango flavors using "Omics." Finding natural sweeteners to offer fruits with enhanced sweetness and lower sugar content.

The project director, Dr. Wang, and PI’s acknowledge the USDA funding that supported this project.
